It's been a big year here at Caroline Chisholm Catholic College, with some big challenges, but also some amazing accomplishments.
Congratulations to all of our students who received academic results earlier this week. We're incredibly proud of the work that you've put in throughout 2023.
This will be our last newsletter for 2023. We hope our students will take the summer holidays as a time to rest and recharge, and wish all our community a wonderful festive season.
As we bid farewell to another enriching school year, it is with great pride that we reflect on the outstanding academic accomplishments of our students. The past few weeks have been dedicated to celebrating these achievements, culminating in our annual Afternoon of Excellence. During this event, we had the privilege of acknowledging more than 200 award winners, recognising their excellence not only in academics but also in service and leadership.
At Caroline Chisholm, we take great pride in fostering a culture of academic excellence, and events like the Afternoon of Excellence exemplify the remarkable strides our students are making in their educational journey.
The recently concluded exams for students spanning from years 7 to 12 mark a significant milestone in our commitment to academic growth. We are particularly proud of the progress observed in our junior years following the introduction of semester exams this year. This initiative not only serves as a valuable learning experience but also equips students with the necessary skills and expectations for future exams and assessment tasks.
A highlight of our success lies in the implementation of exam feedback sessions which are aimed at nurturing a deeper understanding of the assessment process among our students. These sessions provide a platform for students to receive constructive feedback on their exams, offering insights into areas of improvement for future endeavors. We believe it is crucial for students to grasp the significance of feedback, emphasising that the score itself is not the sole measure of success but rather a stepping stone toward continuous improvement.
Looking forward, we are excited about the prospects that the upcoming academic year holds. In the spirit of preparation and anticipation, we offer a few simple tips for students to make the most of their holiday break and gear up for the challenges and triumphs that await them in the year ahead:
1. Set Personal Goals: Take some time to reflect on your academic journey this year and set realistic goals for the upcoming year.
2. Embrace Continuous Learning: Use the holiday break to explore new topics, engage in reading, or participate in skill building activities to broaden your knowledge.
3. Connect with Peers: Strengthen your support network by reaching out to classmates. Share experiences, discuss challenges, and motivate each other for the academic year ahead.
4. Practice Self Care: Prioritise self-care during the holidays. Rest, rejuvenate, and return refreshed to tackle the academic challenges awaiting you in the new year.
We wish you a restful and joyful holiday season, and we eagerly anticipate welcoming you back for another successful academic year.
Warm regards,
Laura Ruddick
Wellness over the Holidays
As the 2023 school year comes to an end, we can be proud of all that our students and community have achieved throughout the year. It is important that students take the break to reflect, recharge and prepare themselves for the new year.
While for many, Christmas is a time of celebration, reconnection with family, and rest, unfortunately, holiday cheer is not everyone’s experience. The Christmas season is an important time to consider those who are less fortunate, or who may be finding this time of year difficult. Family separation and conflict, grief, or loss of a loved one, isolation and financial pressures, are just a few factors that leave some families and individuals dreading this time of year.
You and your family may consider seeking opportunities to reach out to others, who may otherwise be alone this holiday. As a community, it is important to keep an eye out for those who are vulnerable, and to teach our children to share this same care for others. Should you find that you or someone you know requires support for mental health related concerns over the break, consider any of the resources below. Recommending a visit to a General Practitioner, is also an option all year round. There are also many free and affordable activities, events, and excursions, offered by your local council youth services, that your kids can access too. Maintaining social connectedness is a useful ingredient for supporting our overall health.
