Caroline Chisholm Catholic College's Sports Academy targets students who wish to compete at an elite level in their chosen sporting code and are looking to enhance their chances of having a career in professional sport.
About the Program
The Sports Academy program has officially launched at the College this year, introducing both a Year 7 and Year 8 cohort to provide an additional pathway for students to develop their sporting potential while maintaining academic excellence.
Caroline Chisholm’s Sports Academy is designed to support and develop talented student athletes, helping them achieve high performance across various sporting disciplines while maintaining their academic and personal growth. The Academy offers a structured, high-performance environment where students can balance their sporting ambitions with their educational commitments.
The program aims to achieve this by:
Students receive additional training through dedicated Wednesday afternoon sessions from 2:50pm to 4:00pm, utilising the College's early finish on Wednesdays. Students also have additional theory and practical sessions built into their timetable.
The program follows a structured schedule including:
Frequently Asked Questions
Q. How do I apply?
A Year 6 Parent Information Evening will be held in the first semester of 2025 (exact date TBC), where families can learn more about the program and the application process. Applications will be accepted following this meeting and must be submitted through WeTransfer when applicable.
Q. How much does it cost to be involved in the Sports Academy program?
Parents are required to pay an annual Sports Academy fee of $200 which contributes to costs associated with our technical sports training sessions, venue hire and guest speakers.
This cost will also include a Sports Academy training shirt which will be able to be worn for Sports Academy training sessions and S&C sessions. Please note, the College HPE Uniform will still need to be purchased and worn on days where students have PE.
Q. What if my child has ability in multiple sports?
You can include information and coaches’ references from multiple sports within the application form. With the way the program is set up, depending on the season, students will be able to complete different training sessions depending on the season they are in. This allows the continual development of students across their chosen sport without making a 12-year-old decide what sport they want to compete in long term.
Q. How good does my child need to be at their sport/s?
Our aim is continual development. We are big believers that athletes can blossom at different stages and there definitely isn’t a “one size fits all” path. This is one of the reasons we have a continual assessment of students place in the Academy to ensure we don’t have anyone slip through the cracks.
The ability needed is also dependant on the strength of the cohort.
We don’t change our College enrolment process based on the Sports Academy, students are only are only selected from the accepted College enrolments.
Q. Can students be in both the Sports academy and Aspire?
No.
Unfortunately, due to how the timetable structure students will have to pick one or the other. We do encourage students to apply for both programs if they are suitable and then pick the program most applicable to the experience you want at the College.
